Funnel Cake For One
Ingredients:
Other Ingredients:
- Oil of your choice for deep frying
- Toppings of your choice (obscene amounts of powdered sugar, fresh fruit, whipped cream, chocolate syrup ... anything you want!)
Equipment:
- Small bowl to mix ingredients in. I like using a measuring cup with spout.
- Scale to measure ingredients with
- Medium sized saucepan, frying pan or deep fryer.
Other Recipe Notes:
Since we're frying a batter/liquid dough, this recipe will not work in an air fryer.
Directions:
Using a deep fryer or 1.5 to 3 inches of oil in a saucepan or frying pan, begin heating oil to about 375°F/185-190°C.
In a small to medium bowl (I find a measuring cup with spout works best), mix all ingredients together until well combined, smooth with no lumps. It should have a consistency similar to pancake batter. If the batter looks like a flat ribbon as it flows off a spoon or whisk, the consistency is about perfect. If it flows like water, it's too thin. If it plops off in clumps or doesn't flow off spoon/whisk at all, it's too thick.

When oil reaches temperature, slowly pour, in a thin stream, the batter into the oil. Pour it in circles and squiggles, crossing over each other, until all batter has been poured into the oil. Fry about 1.5 minutes then turn the funnel cake over, and fry the other side another 1-2 minutes or until your funnel cake is golden brown and delicious on both sides.
Note: If preferred, you can make two smaller funnel cakes by frying half the batter first, then frying the rest after the first funnel cake is done cooking.
Place cooked funnel cake onto a paper plate, or on a plate with a couple of paper towels placed over it. Let the funnel cake set for 1 to 3 minutes, then top with your favorite toppings and enjoy!
